Could Counselling and Psychotherapy Help Me?

Many of us go through times in our lives that are painful and distressing, or have an addiction where we find it difficult to control certain behaviours leading to harmful consequences, turmoil in relationships, or may have difficult decisions to make in relationships or work life. Sometimes memories from the past present anxiety about the future which can make it difficult to cope with everyday life. We may have experienced trauma, anxiety or depression, social upheaval, an illness or a bereavement. These experiences may affect us in the way we grew up, who we choose to have a relationship with and how we feel about ourselves. We maybe repeating the same patterns of behaviour and negative thoughts, and feel that there is a dark shadow clouding over us. I invite you to talk about yourself. I do not offer advice however my aim is to offer a safe, supportive space where it is non judgemental but can be challenging and lively at times. My aim is to help you;

Have a deeper understanding of yourself.
Have deeper connections with others and help you grow in these relationships.
Understand the relationships we have with others.
Have a more balanced home life and work life.
Have greater achievements and goals.
Have better coping mechanisms with anxiety, stress and depression.
Have a greater purpose

I invite you to talk about yourself, to explore your past experiences and relationships, emotions, goals, core beliefs and values which helps we express ourselves and make sense of many aspects of ourselves; i.e. our anxiety, depression, bereavements, anger, self-harm, abuse, trauma and relationship difficulties. By understanding the affects these have had on our lives, helps us reach our full potential and make important changes in our lives.

Initially we meet on a weekly basis for 50 minutes and speak about what is important to you at this time. It is your choice how much you disclose about yourself. There maybe a specific issue that you want to work through and this space allows us to process this and give meaning to it using a mixture of therapeutic approaches, adapted for each client. These include psychoanalytical therapy, trauma focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive analytic therapy, person-centred therapy, existential therapy and inner-child work.

Our cultural needs or upbringing may affect us in the environment.which we now live in. This includes our awareness of cultural influences such as age, development, disability, religion, sexual orientation, indigenous identity, nationality and gender.
